A few words (ok, more than a few) about each—teaching is one of my greatest joys, and I feel so lucky to spend time with every student. What I value most is connecting on a level beyond the surface: being authentic and vulnerable together, supporting each other while trying something new, sharing the exhilaration of “ah-ha” moments, and having conversations about why people want to make art. Passing along skills I’ve learned from excellent teachers is an honor—and the list of things I love about teaching could go on. As for the Studio Sale Shop—since I work with two galleries, I rarely sell my own pieces. These works are slightly older (or studies that don’t fit in exhibitions) but they’re among my favorites. They often represent breakthroughs, the evolution of an idea, or brushwork I’ve worked hard to achieve. I hope they find homes, because at some point the question arises: what is art without a viewer, without someone to connect with it? To complete the cycle, after paintings are conceived, sketched, developed, analyzed, and finished, they’re meant to go out into the world and serve a purpose. That might be adding a color to a space, evoking a memory, setting a mood, or addressing an idea important to a collector.
